I met Alyssa & Ben over three years ago now when I photographed their wedding back in New Zealand. Vancouver couples photography had always interested me because Canada is such a beautiful place and Vancouver is an amazing city. So amazing that these two decided to make the move there, and I absolutely can see why they did! The thing I always remember fondly about their wedding is the passion for coffee that they share – particularly Ben who works in the industry. If you’re ever on the hunt for an incredible cup, he’s definitely your guy.
I didn’t know Vancouver too well so left the location choice up to these two, who have a love of hiking and exploring the area so naturally have seen a fair bit of it. When they mentioned the word “lighthouse” to me I was immediately sold. It wasn’t much of a walk to get out to the beautiful rocks overlooking the lighthouse and we spent well over an hour enjoying the scenery and soaking up the Vancouver summer evening. We ended up walking back to the car in the dark because as usual I got over-excited and couldn’t stop shooting! I was a little worried about bears on the walk back…but turns out I had nothing to fear.
These married people still have the same zest and chemistry they made them so photogenic and easygoing in front of the lens as they did on their wedding day. Catching up with couples who’s weddings I’ve photographed and seeing where they’re at now is one of my favourite things about this job. You make so many friends it’s hard to visit a country without bumping into a couple!
