I often get asked about Auckland city wedding photography because so often I find myself out in nature, in the wilderness, among forests and mountains. But city’s also hold a special place in my heart and Auckland as a city has so many opportunities for photography that are sometimes forgotten.

Sophia & Jason’s wedding was the last of my NZ season before I headed back to Europe – I absolutely love April weddings in the southern hemisphere because you get this brilliant light and nobody is sweating! Although climate change could make light work of that situation very soon! But I digress haha. When I first met Sophia & Jason we chatted about their day and what they wanted their wedding to feel like. Sophia is originally from Korea and so for her – showing off New Zealand’s natural beauty as well as preserving this time of their lives was really important. We opted to do two sets of portraits – the first right in the CBD where the two of them work and live, and a second set on a rugged west coast beach showing off the raw beauty that Auckland has to offer.

The wedding itself took place at Markovina vineyard, they opted for an intimate wedding to ensure they could give their loved ones all a bit of quality time on the day. Sophia is a talented baker and also hand-made and decorated their wedding cake! We talked a lot about ways that they could incorporate their passion into the day to look back and reflect on in the future and I’m so glad they took this into account.
