Featherston wedding – Mary & Michael

Featherston wedding photographyA Featherston wedding is the stuff of kiwi kids story books in my opinion, this gorgeous little town at the bottom of the North Island of New Zealand is like stepping through a time warp in the best way possible. Rolling countryside, lakes, rivers, and a sleepiness about it you can’t help but fall in love with. So I can completely understand why a couple of years ago, Mary and Michael decided to pack up the lives they knew and make the move south to settle here.

I’ve known and had the pleasure of calling Mary a friend for a few years now, she was actually a tutor at my university during our degree! And if any of you have ever admired my logo – she is the type mastermind behind it too. Make sure you keep an eye out for the wedding invitations – done of course by Mary from her wonderful studio shared with Alice – Faber and Lo.

There were so many elements of this wedding that I absolutely adored but will refrain from writing you a novel. The gorgeous bungalow that you see pictured is the home that Mary and Michael have purchased and as you already know I love when brides get ready at home or somewhere sentimental! Mary’s dress was an original vintage which she found online, vintage to the point where it was held on to her with the old metal press buttons, and went on piece by piece as if it were a pattern! I adored her dedication to original vintage.

We set off for the church in Mary’s fathers motorhome! Another favourite touch, the ceremony was intimate and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house! Martinborough had no shortage of amazing portrait spots so I had to restrain myself from taking them out for hours and hours, the time with your guests is just as important. We arrived at the quaint Martinborough town hall for the cutest reception I’ve ever seen and my absolute favourite touch – the first dance.

This wedding is also featured in Issue 5 of Together Journal.

Strictly speaking there was no dancing, in fact instead of having a first dance these two opted for a first song! Michael played guitar and Mary sung an version of Florence and the machines girl with one eye that would make Florence step down – I have no idea where she was hiding those lungs! Just beautiful.
