Those of you who have visited the very beautiful Matapouri bay will know what a magical place it is. On my first visit to this particular Northland beach I felt like i never wanted to leave again, just breathtaking. So I was pretty excited when Jesse & Kawiti got in touch for their big day, Kawiti’s family and ancestors have lived in this bay for generations, the stories and legends the ocean holds here are remarkable and I wouldn’t do them justice to even attempt to share them!
It seemed only fitting for these two to tie the knot on this stunning slice of New Zealand, a new zealand northland beach wedding was just so appropriate with Kawiti’s family home being just a short walk from the beach. These lovebirds returned from London for a super laid back, super kiwi wedding weekend with loved ones. I was also lucky enough to have my dear friend Gen from London shoot this one with me and of course my indispensable assistant Jay. We had a blast to say the least, hanging out with Jesse and her eight bridesmaids was chaotic in the best way possible!
It was a sight like no other to see Jesse, her parents and her bridal party in all different shades of purple, making their way to the ceremony near Lion Rock and passing swimmers, beach cricketers, surfers and having all these wonderful strangers applaud. I love unexpected surprises like this on Wedding days, it all adds to the joy.
Kawiti is an Opera singer, and the Avocado orchard where they held their reception is also a place where he is well known for performing. Underneath the stars we spent a warm summer evening dancing the night away, laughing and enjoying several performances from talented friends and family.
Totally gorgeous Nisha! I loved shooting this wedding with you xx
